Workshop: Painting with Knives
Pocosin Arts Center, Columbia, NC
July 13-16, 2017
Working from direct observation and photographs we will make paintings using oil paints, a cold wax-based medium (a solvent-softened mixture of beeswax and synthetic waxes), or a thick impasto medium. This thick paste is applied to a wood panel or canvas with palette knives. Through demos and one-on-one instruction, we will explore the possibilities of layering and incising to capture and transform our subject matter.
This is an introductory class for some and a refresher and continuation for others. We will discuss composition and color, and participants will receive individual attention to encourage them to take the next step in their painting.
